Chocolate Buttermilk Bread

Warning! This is a very dangerous recipe and worth every bit of calories! I must place the blame on Lynn at Lynn's Kitchen's Adventures where I found the recipe, so please send all of your extra calories to her and not me!

I made this yesterday and it is sooooo good! Lynn also said she used it for muffins , which I think I will try next. It's sort of a cross between soft brownies and a really good muffin, not at all like bread. Oh and I doubled the recipe and made 2 loaves! Oink! Thank you Lynn--I think!?

Enjoy!

Buttermilk Chocolate Bread

1/2 cup butter
1 cup white sugar
2 eggs
1 cup buttermilk
1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup chocolate chips

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Grease only the bottom of a 9x5 inch loaf pan.
In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the buttermilk. Combine the flour, 1/2 cup cocoa, baking powder, baking soda and salt; stir into the buttermilk mixture until moistened. Mix in 1 cup chocolate chips. Pour into the prepared pan.
Bake for 55 to 65 minutes in the preheated oven, until a wooden pick inserted near the center comes out clean. Cool in the pan for 15 minutes before removing to a wire rack to cool completely.

Freebie Cross Stitching Links

Years ago when my two oldest kids were very young--and so were my eyes--I loved to cross stitch. Fast forward about 20 years and a real need for some new glasses I've started getting back into cross stitching and have found some wonderful freebie patterns around the net, so I thought I'd share what I've found with you. Beware though some of these sites have some beautiful stitching and you're sure to get sidetracked, so pack a snack and enjoy!

Toothache Remedy

I found a home remedy that really works, so I thought I'd pass it along. I had a toothache over the weekend and Ibuprofen just wasn't working fast enough, so I Googled and found out that if you cut a clove of garlic in half, then give it a little squish--not too much though--and place in on the tooth area that hurts it actually removes the pain and almost instantly! I was totally surprised! It can be a bit hot, especially if you smash it enough that the juices start flowing. You just want to release a little bit of the juices, but boy it sure works! Of course no one cares to be too near you, but then again that could have it's benefits too somedays. LOL!

Clove oil will also work, although I didn't have any of that and also a slice of fresh ginger will work, but I didn't care for the ginger. It was wet and cold! Seems garlic has lots of great uses and this is just one of them!

Where Women Create Magazine--Eye Candy Alert!

Before you read any further please be prepared for some total eye candy! Jo Packham and her team have done it again with this latest issue of Where Women Create magazine--which is really almost nearer to being a book than a magazine. The rooms and the artists in this issue are absolutely fabulous!

This is the issue with Marie Osmond and oh you should see her room! It's gorgeous! It has everything you'd ever need in it.

Then there's the room of Candy Moger. Candy's room is my dream room! It's so me! If I could combine her room and Marie's room I'd be in heaven!

Add to it Amy Hanna's room filled with vintage treasures! Hey Gayle what do you think of her huge cabinet of drawers! Lots of space for tucking in treasures and supplies.

So as you can see it's another must have issue. Other artists you'll find in this issue are:

Melissa Biggs
Alisa Burke
Elizabeth Clah
Gwendolyn Evans
Pam Garrison
Sandi Genovese
Lisa Kaus
Jennifer Lanne

and so much more!

It came out May 1st, so hurry to your nearest book store before they all get snapped up!

A Message To My Dad

My sister, Rhonda, told me that while our mother is in the hospital recouperating from open heart surgery (she had this on her 69th birthday of all days) that she was going to get my dad set up with his laptop and show him my blog, so I thought I'd post a message to him here just in case he really does get to my blog.

Hi Daddy, are you on the internet? Are you visiting my blog? Make sure to click around the photos and on the pictures in my left hand sidebar and scroll down to near the bottom and click on the words "older posts" to go to the next page---there are lots and lots of pages! If you click on something in the sidebar you'll have to hit the back button to come back here or easier yet, right click and select open in new window or new tab, then you won't lose where you were at. Do you have your email addy yet? Email me if you do. So do you remember this photo......Who are those people?

In the photo are my mom and dad, blondie is my sister Rhonda, my brother Greg and then me--about age 10 (1971).

When you get bored here you can always go to Google and read all about gardening, goats and tractors. You'll learn more than you ever wanted to. Hope you enjoy your trip around the web.

The best behaved child,

Cathy Ü

PS--what's the update on Mom.

PSS--Update on Mom to those who have asked (thank you)--I talked to her for just a couple of minutes earlier today and she's sitting up and sounds good--a little druggy, but good. I'm very surprised she's sitting up and I hadn't expected to be able to talk to her for several more days. She says the beds are not very comfortable and most of the tubes have come out, so that's all good news!
