Helen's Sewing Room

Meet Helen and my mom. Helen is a dear family friend that I've known all my life. She and her husband Chet have been family friends since they and my parents met in college way back in the late 1950's. Their kids and my brother, sister and I grew up together, but it has been several years since I've seen them. Recently my folks were in California for a visit and my brother decided to tape Helen's sewing room for me and so I thought I would share Helen's sewing room with all my friends here. You'll even see my mom--she's the fiery red head.

Helen, I just love that big corner window you have. Great light and a pretty view too and if you call your stash messy you'll die when you see how I keep mine! LOL! Love your sewing machines too! Thank you Helen! Hi Mom!

Our Newest Family Addition

Miss Daizy!

Daizy is a 20 year old rescue donkey.

And yes she looks just like Miss Dixie. Daizy is our rescue donkey and she arrived here at her new home this Saturday. We found Daizy through a craigs list add--for free! Saturday morning we loaded up and headed out on our 2 hour drive to Twin Falls Idaho where we found Daizy in a very poor home. No grass in the pasture and not being very well taken care of. Daizy is approx. 20 years old--donkeys live to be 40-50 years old.

She had the most horrible twisted hooves I've ever seen. It was so bad all she could do was hobble, because her 2 back hooves were twisted and turned under, so she actually walked on the top of her hooves instead of the bottom. It was quite an awful sight. I really wasn't sure how we were going to get her out of the pasture, where she had to cross a small creek and up to the road to the trailer, but she slowly hobbled and somehow jumped the creek and then when she made it to the trailer in she walked.

We headed to get a quick burger and to see if we could find a farrier that could help us with her awful hooves. We just couldn't stand to have her like that another minute. After placing a few calls we were ever so thankful to find a kind farrier on our way home who was willing to put her poor twisted hooves back to normal--or near normal. It'll take a bit more trimming over the next few weeks, but they look 100% better and she can now walk normal.

She's a very sweet disposition and is now getting fed regularly with plenty to graze on along with a barn to keep warm in (donkey's can't handle the weather like horses do) and she gets lots of love, pets and treats.

Daizy and Dixie at feeding time. Dixie, who is only 2 1/2 is still getting used to her new sister and isn't all that happy about it--yet, but she'll get there. She's been getting extra attention too and of course no donkey will turn that down!

Autumn Morning Rainbow

This is what was outside our backdoor this morning.....

.....the morning autumn sky was dark and getting ready to let forth its rain, but first it sprinkled on us and greeted us with a most fabulous full arch double rainbow!

The picture only partially captures how fabulous and how intense and close this rainbow was. I wonder if the pot of gold sat at the bottom of the rainbow on those homes.

The color was so vibrant and intense. I'm not sure if I've seen a rainbow quite like it before. The photos just don't capture that part of it.

The double arches............

All morning long the sky has been one big show of very dark, but beautiful then filled with gleaming light streaming from behind the clouds. It's been just beautiful!

How Sweet Is This!

While out thrifting the other day I found this absolutely darling Charlotte Becker print and I couldn't pass it up! Isn't it just too sweet! When I saw it some man had just picked it up and I'm thinking put it down, put it down, that's not you! Well sure enough he put it down and I swooped in (gracefully and tactfully), snatched it up and ran off. Well ok, so I siddled up when he was a few feet away and then quietly picked it up and continued shopping, no use making a spectacle of oneself--right? ;)

I had thought about putting it in my Etsy Shoppe, but then decided that I think I may have to keep it and hang it in my sewing room. I scanned it in, so it'll come up large if you click on it, but I scanned it with the glass of the frame still covering it and there's a bit of a streak that's not there on the print itself. Oh too cute!

PS--Helen if you see this, doesn't the little girl look like Julie. That's who I think of when I see her.

Halloween Decor

Well I finally got my halloween decorations up yesterday, so I thought I'd share a few pics.......

Little feather tree with handmade swap ornies.....

....a few black cats.....

...love my wool penny rug from a pattern called Surrounded by Cats by Lakeview Primitives

.....bobble head witch. She's kinda odd I think, but sorta oddly cute.....

....smile!......

.....say cheese!.........

.....I discovered after I got the mantle decorated, that I seem to have several black cats. More than I realized.....

......my favorite darling little prim witch, made for me by my friend Deb Stallings of Cozy Cabin Quilter.....

.....and the halloween tree filled with lots of wonderful handmade ornies that I've swapped with my online friends for the past several years. This is the first year I haven't swapped in about 8 years, but you can bet I will be swapping at Christmas!

Now that the decorations are out let the candy party begin!
