Thrifting Treasures!

I had a perfectly wonderful day today as my friend Trudy and I started out along with my 10yro daughter on a little road trip. It was our plan to hit a couple of quilt shops and of course we had to hit at least one thrift store and that's exactly what we did......

.....but first I have to show you the cute little aqua colored sewing box I got last week at the thrift store. Isn't it cool!

....and then today I found a cute little vintage jewelry box. I've seen people using these to organize their sewing items, so I think I'll give it a whirl and this one I think will be great for holding filled bobbins......

....then I found a baggie all stapled up with some needlepoint pieces in it. I could see the florals, but not the dogs. Someone did a really nice job on these. I just gotta figure out what to do with the dogs.........

...and in that baggie was this beautiful rose needlepoint canvas (from France) just waiting for someone to stitch it up--Me! Not bad for a baggie full and only .50 for all of these pieces!.....

...an itty bitty walnut to go amongst the fall decor and this really cool toile printed on plain brown paper......

.....a few rolls of wall paper that I'm collecting up to put in my hopefully someday soon to be shabby rose sewing room. It's a good start anyway.........

....and then a whole roll of a darling doll wall paper border, that I have no idea what I'll do with, but had to have, because I know I'll find something to do with it and for .50 couldn't pass up. If you click on the image it will come up nice and big, so you can save it if you'd like. I scanned it, so it should be quite useable.

And of course I found lots of awesome fabrics at the quilt shops, but they'll have to wait til I have some serious pennies to spend.

We had a wonderful day and wonderful treasures!

A Few New Treasures

Just a few treasures I found this past week while out thrifting and a couple that I brought back from my trip to see my mom in Missouri.........

I was thrilled to find this rose pitcher for only 5.50, but when I got to the counter the gal said it was priced too high and lowered the price! I got it for 3.50 instead! It's not old, but it looks old. It's one of those repros from the 1990's, but I love it old or not.

Another piece I was thrilled to find was this tin from Holland. This one was 3.00, so I snapped it up! I've seen a few tins of this style in different shapes, sizes and colors and I always pass them up and then regret it, so I've officially got my first piece and intend to start a collection of them.

Then I found this rose tin for a whole whopping .50! Again I was thrilled! Do you see a pattern here. LOL! I was just reading Artsy Mama's blog and she has a tin just like it.

Then while visiting my mom she gave me the little pink pitcher for my all things pink collection and while at a flea market there I found the celluloid powder box to go with my celluloid collection. Hmm....think I need another colleciton. The correct answer would be----YES! hehee!

I can't wait for my next adventure treasure hunting to see what goodies are out there to be found!

The Carousel Horse

Do you remember the carousel horses that were popular in the 90's--the one's that were made from the childrens old hobby horses. Well I brought my mom's home with me from Missouri.....

I always loved this horse. My brother had it made for her. He made the base and pole and had found an old hobby horse and then a cousin of his wife did all the painting and decorating......and yes I have pink drapes and carpet!

It is crackle painted all over and the roses, ribbons, braided trims and fabric for the saddle are all painted over as well.

Here's closer look at some of the details. It needs just a bit of minor touch up here and there, but not too bad for a horse that is about 12-15 years old and has moved about 4 times--this last time being in the back of the van about 1500 miles.

I'd still like to try and make one of these myself. I wonder if anyone would want one? Oh well something that's still on my "to do" list after all these years. LOL!
